Google will begin deleting old and inactive accounts, starting from Friday. The tech giant stated that it will take a phased approach, starting with accounts that have been created but never used again. To keep an account active, users simply need to sign in or send an email. Google's inactive account policy aims to enhance security as forgotten and unused accounts are more susceptible to compromise. These accounts provide access to various Google products, such as Gmail and YouTube, using the same login credentials. Old accounts are at higher risk due to outdated or reused passwords and the lack of two-factor authentication. Abused accounts can be exploited for activities like identity theft, malicious content, and spam. Google recommends using recovery email addresses associated with accounts for receiving notifications. It has sent warnings to affected accounts and their recovery email addresses before deletion. Users are also advised to log into Google Photos every two years to prevent their content from being deleted. Accounts created by organizations or used for certain purposes will be exempt from the deletion policy. Recent sign-ins ensure account activity and protection from deletion.
