In the Nigerian city of Ibadan, a powerful explosion occurred, resulting in the death of two individuals and leaving 77 others injured. The incident has prompted ongoing efforts to rescue and recover in seven surrounding neighborhoods. Although the exact cause of the explosion remains uncertain, authorities suspect it may have been triggered by mining explosives stored in a residential house. Distressing photographs depict severe damage to buildings and the destruction of vehicles caused by the blast. Social media has been flooded with videos capturing the moment of the explosion, including one witness who described witnessing the destruction of a mall in Bodija, a residential area in Ibadan. Police have assured a prompt investigation into the incident. The regional governor, Seyi Makinde, stated that initial investigations suggest that illegal miners were occupying one of the houses in Bodija and had stored explosive devices there, consequently leading to the explosion.
