According to reports from US media, Halle Berry's sci-fi film, The Mothership, will not be released on Netflix. The Hollywood Reporter stated that Netflix decided to shelve the film due to the need for significant reshoots during the post-production stage. Berry and her team completed filming in 2021, with the release originally planned for 2022. Neither Berry nor Netflix have commented publicly on this decision. In February 2021, Netflix had announced the film in a preview of new releases, describing it as a sci-fi adventure following the story of Sara Morse, played by Halle Berry, whose husband mysteriously disappears from their rural farm. When Sara discovers an alien object beneath their home, she and her children embark on a mission to find their husband and uncover the truth. Sources cited by various US entertainment news outlets claim that lengthy delays in the film's post-production led to Netflix's decision. The Mothership was supposed to mark the directorial debut of British Oscar nominee Matthew Charman. Berry has a multi-picture partnership with Netflix, having made her directorial debut with the drama Bruised in 2020. She is also set to co-star with Mark Wahlberg in an upcoming action thriller, The Union. In other news, Netflix recently reported a surge in sign-ups at the end of last year, attributing the increase to customers creating their own accounts due to the company's crackdown on password-sharing. The streamer gained over 13.1 million subscriptions in the last three months of 2021, the highest quarterly growth since 2020, affirming its confidence in its growth trajectory and plans to raise prices.
