Could the Grammy Awards get it right this year? The nominees for this year's ceremony are more populist and contemporary compared to previous years. R&B star SZA leads with nine nominations, and there will be performances from a range of big names like Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Joni Mitchell, and U2. Comedian Trevor Noah will host for the fourth year, overseeing a staggering 94 categories. Indie-rock supergroup Boygenius and pop star Victoria Monét both have seven nominations each, while Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey, and Spice Girls also have multiple nominations in a female-dominated field. Over 80 awards will be given during the "premiere ceremony" before the main show, which will be broadcast live on CBS in the US. Taylor Swift has the chance to make history as the first artist to win the album of the year category four times. Joni Mitchell and Tracy Chapman will also make highly anticipated performances. Scottish music producer Blair Ferguson could win a Grammy alongside SZA for his work on her hit single "Snooze." The best rock song category features a clash between Olivia Rodrigo's punky track and The Rolling Stones, with Boygenius as a standout contender. The Grammys have introduced new categories to reflect the influence of African music and alternative jazz. Miley Cyrus has six nominations but has never won a Grammy. The country genre, which saw a resurgence in the US last year, is notably absent from the major categories due to political and racial undertones. Jelly Roll, an underground musician turned mainstream country artist, is up for best new artist at 39 years old. The Latin Grammys also made headlines by awarding a best new artist trophy to 95-year-old Angela Alvarez in 2022.
