Two prosecutors in Georgia, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and Deputy District Attorney John Floyd, have faced calls to recuse themselves from the election case against former President Donald Trump due to their acknowledgment of having an affair. However, both prosecutors have rejected these calls, with Willis dismissing the conflict of interest allegations as salacious and brought in bad faith. According to CBS, Floyd stated in an affidavit that he and Willis had developed a personal relationship in 2022. In response, Trump and his co-defendants are seeking to have Willis disqualified from the case. This recent filing marks the first time the two prosecutors have acknowledged their relationship. These allegations could potentially derail the prosecution of Trump and his associates for their attempts to overturn the results of Georgia's 2020 election. It's worth noting that Willis had brought Floyd onto the investigation in 2021, and shortly after, he filed for divorce from his wife of twenty years. In an effort to resist disqualification, Willis has asked Judge Scott McAfee, who is overseeing the case, to reject the legal maneuvers made by the defendants to remove her and the district attorney's office from the proceedings.
