A French senator, Joël Guerriau, has been questioned by police after being accused of giving a drug to a member of parliament without her knowledge. The MP, Sandrine Josso, allegedly had a drink with Guerriau and later complained of feeling unwell. She was taken to the hospital where tests revealed traces of the drug ecstasy in her system. Subsequently, she filed a criminal complaint. The 66-year-old senator was questioned on suspicion of administering a substance to another person without their knowledge with the intention of impairing their judgment or self-control for the purpose of committing a rape or sexual assault. Guerriau is an independent senator and member of the centrist Horizons party. During his custody, Josso confronted him and shared her account of the events. Her lawyer described her as being in a state of shock. Guerriau's lawyer defended his client, stating that initial reports in the press had given an incorrect interpretation of the situation. The investigation is ongoing, and Guerriau, a former banker, could face severe consequences if found guilty.
