A powerful storm in eastern Argentina has resulted in the death of fourteen people and caused significant damage to buildings. The storm, with heavy rain and winds reaching speeds of 150km/h (93mph), hit the port city of Bahia Blanca before moving towards the capital, Buenos Aires. Thirteen people died after part of a sports center roof collapsed during a roller skating competition, while another person was killed in a neighboring town when hit by a falling tree branch. Fourteen others were injured, and firefighters worked tirelessly to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble. The storm also caused power outages, and footage showed strong winds battering a parked plane at an airport near Buenos Aires. A new orange weather alert, indicating a threat to life and property, was activated in parts of Buenos Aires province. President Javier Milei, who just assumed office, visited Bahia Blanca to assess the situation. The government is collaborating with local authorities to aid the victims and manage the damage. Two additional deaths occurred in neighboring Uruguay, where roofs were torn off and trees were uprooted by the storm.
