Over the weekend, Fortnite had its biggest day in history, according to its makers. The popular battle royale game transported players back to its original island setting for its latest season, which attracted 44.7 million players logging a total of 102 million hours of play on Sunday alone. Despite some technical issues with logging in and queues, Fortnite continues to thrive with its intense gameplay where up to 100 players fight to be the last one standing. The game is currently in its fourth chapter, with each season introducing new changes and features. Fortnite OG, the latest update, was an instant hit with fans, recording an all-time high of 6.2 million concurrent players on Sunday. The game's success also led to an increase in viewers on streaming site Twitch. Epic Games acknowledged the high demand and warned players of potential queues before joining a match. However, despite Fortnite's triumph, Epic recently announced layoffs due to overspending. Other prominent game developers, like Bungie, have also experienced layoffs despite a successful year for the gaming industry. In addition to Fortnite, Epic owns its own online games store and has recently released praised titles such as Alan Wake 2.
