Liverpool footballer Luis Díaz, who was born in Colombia, is pleading for the immediate release of his father from his kidnappers. The incident occurred in his hometown of Barrancas on 28 October, where both of Díaz's parents were taken hostage by members of the left-wing guerrilla group, the National Liberation Army (ELN). Although his mother has been located, his father remains missing. Díaz expressed his mounting anxiety and desperation in a statement released on Sunday, after scoring a crucial goal against Luton, where he revealed a message on his shirt that read "freedom for papa." He pleaded with the kidnappers to free his father, emphasizing the pain that the wait has caused his family and asking them to reconsider their actions and reunite them.
