US Authorities Report Death of Child at New York Nursery Due to Fentanyl Discovered Beneath Nap Mats

According to police, a kilogram of fentanyl was found under nap mats at a nursery in New York where one child died and three others were hospitalized. The children, ranging in age from 8 months to two years old, were believed to have inhaled the powerful narcotic drug. Three children were given Narcan, an emergency medication to reverse opioid overdose. Two people have been charged with drug conspiracy and murder. The nursery was searched and one kilogram of fentanyl was found underneath a mat where the children had been sleeping. Three presses used for packaging drugs were also discovered. The owner of the nursery and her tenant are facing federal charges. It is alleged that the defendants were running a drug operation from the daycare center. Fentanyl, which is blamed for an increase in drug deaths, was found to be 50 times more powerful than heroin. The suspects are labeled as flight risks and are being held without bail. The city health inspectors did not identify any violations during a surprise visit to the nursery. The mayor called for a national effort to combat the drug and highlighted its deadly potency.
