The feminist news site Jezebel, which recently closed down, has been sold to a new owner called Paste Media. Paste Media, known for its music coverage, has plans to relaunch Jezebel this week. Jezebel was originally part of the Gawker empire when it began in 2007 and has since changed ownership multiple times. The previous owner, G/O Media, cited economic challenges as the reason for shutting down the site. However, they expressed hope for a potential sale. Jim Spanfeller, G/O Media's CEO, stated that they had been working on the sale for months and expressed delight that Jezebel has found a new home. The closure of Jezebel after 16 years has been mourned by many who appreciated the blog's influential voice in the digital publishing landscape. Josh Jackson, the founding editor-in-chief of Paste and its president, expressed that the idea of Jezebel not existing anymore didn't seem right. The terms of the deal were undisclosed, and at present, Jezebel has no staff. Additionally, Paste Media has also acquired Splinter, a political news site previously shut down by G/O in 2019. The challenges in online advertising, with tech giants like Amazon, Google, and Meta grabbing a significant share of spending, have caused disruptions for many media businesses. Paste, founded over two decades ago in Atlanta, has managed to adapt to changes in the media landscape and remained independent and successful in the digital realm.
