Elon Musk's social media platform X has filed a lawsuit against Media Matters for America, a left-leaning pressure group that accused the site of hosting antisemitic posts alongside advertisements. X's legal action claims that Media Matters manipulated data to undermine and destroy the platform, previously known as Twitter. After Musk threatened the lawsuit, Media Matters responded by labeling him a bully. The advocacy group stated that ads promoting Nazism, including Hitler quotes and Holocaust denial, appeared on X. In another incident, Musk himself was accused of sharing an antisemitic idea on the platform. The lawsuit argues that Media Matters intentionally created images portraying advertisers' posts next to neo-Nazi and white nationalist content to drive advertisers away from X. X stated in the lawsuit that ads for Comcast, Oracle, and IBM were only displayed alongside hateful content for Media Matters and not for any other viewers. Several organizations, including the European Commission and Warner Bros Discovery, have withdrawn their advertisements from X following the Media Matters allegations. Musk has vowed to file a strong lawsuit against Media Matters and anyone involved in the alleged fraudulent attack on his company. In response, Media Matters president Angelo Carusone expressed confidence in winning any legal action and referred to Musk as a bully trying to silence accurate reporting. Founded in 2004, Media Matters is a nonprofit organization known for critiquing conservative commentators and media outlets. Musk faced criticism after his comments on a conspiracy theory linking Jewish communities to the promotion of hatred against white people, although he later clarified that his comments were not directed at all Jewish individuals but specific groups like the Anti-Defamation League. Additionally, the Texas Republican Attorney General, Ken Paxton, announced an investigation into Media Matters for potential fraudulent activity regarding its allegations against X. The White House also revealed that President Joe Biden would be joining Threads, a rival platform owned by Meta. Threads accounts have been created for the president, first lady, vice-president, and second gentleman.
