Tesla is recalling over two million cars in the US due to deficiencies in its Autopilot system, which assists drivers. The recall comes after a two-year investigation into accidents involving the system. Tesla plans to fix the issue with a software update. This recall affects almost every Tesla vehicle sold in the US since 2015 when Autopilot was introduced. Although Autopilot is designed to aid with steering, acceleration, and braking, it still requires driver input. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) discovered a problem with the driver monitoring system, which determines whether the driver is paying attention. Tesla admitted that the controls of the system may not be sufficient to prevent misuse. The NHTSA will continue to monitor the updated software. This news comes shortly after a former Tesla employee expressed concerns about the technology's safety. This is the second recall of Tesla vehicles this year.
