Transport for London (TfL) is searching for solutions to address the issue of "ghost marks" on the walls of the Elizabeth line's platforms. These marks occur when people lean against the walls behind the platform benches. TfL is currently experimenting with different methods, such as using vinyl coverings behind the seats, to combat this problem. The Elizabeth line stretches across 73 miles, connecting Reading and Heathrow Airport in the west to Abbey Wood and Shenfield in the east. Caroline Pidgeon, a Liberal Democrat on the London Assembly, raised this concern in a recent written question to Mayor Sadiq Khan. She inquired about TfL's measures to ensure regular cleaning of the walls for long-lasting freshness. In response, the mayor's office stated that they have implemented a rigorous cleaning program at all TfL stations to guarantee a clean and safe environment for customers. However, TfL is also exploring new cleaning techniques for the walls behind the seating area at certain Elizabeth line stations in order to remove any marks and protect the walls in the future. The installation of vinyl coverings is being trialed, with various designs being tested, including colored "pawn" shapes and a block design featuring the Elizabeth line's fabric pattern.
