A radio anchor known as DJ Johnny Walker was shot and killed while doing a live broadcast in the Philippines. The incident took place in his home-based studio, according to police. President Marcos Jr strongly condemned the murder and expressed his condolences. The National Union of Journalists in the Philippines reported that four journalists have been killed since Marcos Jr took office in June 2022. The union emphasized that the attack was especially condemnable as it occurred in Jumalon's own home, where the radio station was also located. The suspect entered the recording booth and shot Jumalon while he was live-streaming on Facebook. The motive behind the attack is unclear, but according to police sources, the suspect asked for permission to enter the booth to make an important announcement. CCTV footage in the area has been secured by the police for investigation. Jumalon's broadcasts are usually aired on the 94.7 Gold Mega Calamba FM Facebook page, which has a significant following. Although Jumalon's wife rushed him to the hospital after the incident, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police claim to be unaware of any prior threats against his life. President Marcos Jr has ordered a thorough investigation to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice. The Philippines is known to be one of the most dangerous countries for journalists, according to US-based organization Freedom House.
