Disney has confirmed its plans to acquire the remaining stake in streaming service Hulu. The company will buy the 33% stake it does not currently own from TV giant Comcast, giving Disney full ownership of the platform. This move will allow Disney to incorporate Hulu into its own Disney+ platform. The takeover is estimated to cost $8.6 billion and is expected to boost Disney's streaming objectives and subscriber numbers. Currently, Hulu is already sold as part of bundled offerings with Disney+ and ESPN+ in the US. Negotiations with Comcast are ongoing, but Disney hopes to finalize the deal by 1 December. Hulu currently has 48.3 million subscribers, compared to Disney's 146.1 million globally. Disney has been facing challenges in the streaming market due to falling profits, lackluster film performance, and a decrease in advertising sales. The acquisition of Hulu will further strengthen Disney's position and expand its content library.
