Randy Roedema, a police officer from Colorado, has been found guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the death of Elijah McClain. McClain, an unarmed black man, was placed in a chokehold and injected with a potent sedative before his tragic demise. The jury unanimously convicted Roedema, while another officer named Jason Rosenblatt was acquitted of the charges. Prosecutors accused both officers of employing excessive force during their encounter with McClain in 2019. This case gained renewed attention following the murder of George Floyd. According to Colorado law, Roedema could potentially face prison time and a fine. In response to the verdict, Roedema was suspended without pay from the Aurora Police Department, whereas Rosenblatt had already been fired in 2020.
