Conservative MP Dehenna Davison has resigned from her position as a levelling up minister due to her struggle with chronic migraines. In a letter to the prime minister, Davison stated that her health issues made it impossible for her to fulfill her responsibilities as a minister and that the role required someone with more energy. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve in government and pledged her support to Rishi Sunak's government from the backbenches. Davison, who won the Bishop Auckland seat in the 2019 general election, was considered a rising star within the Conservative Party. However, after just three years in her parliamentary career, she announced that she will not be running for re-election in order to focus on her family and personal life outside of politics. Now, Davison intends to use her remaining time in Parliament to support her constituents and advocate for justice for victims of one-punch assaults and their families. Her father was killed in a single-punch attack when she was 13, and she has been outspoken about her belief that the sentence for the assault was too lenient. In a letter posted on social media, Davison explained that her health problems have significantly impacted her ability to carry out her ministerial duties. Some days she is able to manage, but on others, it is difficult or even impossible to keep up with the demands of the job. Davison has been a junior minister in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities since September 2022. In response to her resignation, Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove expressed his sadness at losing her from the department and praised her as a talented minister and friend. Conservative MP Jacob Young has been appointed to take over Davison's role in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities. Migraines affect millions of people in the UK, and they can have a significant impact on daily life. In addition to headaches, individuals may experience nausea, vomiting, visual disturbances, and other symptoms. Migraines can be unpredictable, making it challenging to plan for work and social engagements. It is not advisable to ignore the symptoms and try to push through an attack, as they can last for hours and leave individuals feeling drowsy and confused.
