A British model and TikToker named Modou Adams has been sentenced to nearly seven years in a Peruvian prison for attempting to smuggle cocaine out of the country. On 30 September, Adams was apprehended at the Jorge Chávez International Airport with 2.9kg (6.4lb) of cocaine concealed in his suitcase. According to court reports, the 25-year-old was intending to transport the drugs to the UK. Officials discovered the narcotics sealed at the back of his suitcase during a search. Adams pleaded guilty to the charges of drug smuggling and was also fined. The Superior Court of Justice of Callao disclosed the details in a statement released last week. Peru's Supreme Court, in a message via its official account on X (previously Twitter), stated that Adams had been incarcerated for orchestrating the shipment of approximately 3kg of cocaine to London. Alongside the statement, they shared an edited image of Adams behind bars. Adams' social media accounts reveal his last posted photographs at Machu Picchu – a renowned tourist spot in Peru along the Inca Trail. Local media quoted anti-drug prosecutor Lincoln Fuentes, who stated that this was not the first instance of Adams smuggling drugs out of the country. A spokesperson from the UK Foreign Office commented that they were providing assistance to a British citizen arrested in Peru and maintaining communication with local authorities.
