According to local authorities, a 33-year-old British base jumper tragically passed away in Thailand. The incident occurred in the popular beach resort of Pattaya when the man's parachute failed to open after he leaped from a 29-storey apartment building. Witnesses who saw the incident informed the police that they saw the jumper crash through a tree before plummeting to the ground. The victim had a notable online presence suggesting he possessed experience in parachuting. The police discovered a closed blue parachute near the man. The building's staff mentioned that the man had reached the top floor accompanied by friends who were filming his base jumping stunt. Base jumping, an extreme sport involving parachuting from high structures rather than aircraft, has gained popularity among expatriates residing in Southeast Asia. Some individuals derive income from the large number of social media followers who watch their base jumping videos. Nonetheless, due to the limited time available to react before hitting the ground, this activity carries significant risks and has a higher fatality rate than traditional skydiving. Earlier this year, in March 2022, a British man lost his life while base jumping in southeastern France. The Foreign Office has confirmed that they are providing support to the family of the deceased British man in Thailand.
