Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister of the UK, has announced that he will be joining GB News. Having stepped down as a Member of Parliament earlier this year, Johnson will be taking on multiple roles at the news channel, including presenter, programme maker, and commentator. GB News stated that Johnson will play a significant part in the coverage of the upcoming UK and US elections in 2023, and he will also host a series that highlights Britain's influence worldwide. Johnson expressed his excitement about his new role in a video posted on social media, where he promised to share his unfiltered opinions on politics and global issues. He mentioned his plans to discuss topics such as Russia, China, the war in Ukraine, and how to address these challenges. Johnson, who also writes a column for the Daily Mail, will be joining other Conservative politicians, including Jacob Rees-Mogg, Lee Anderson, Esther McVey, and Philip Davies, who have also joined GB News. Notably, Johnson sought advice from the independent Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (Acoba) regarding his employment with GB News. Although the committee found no specific concerns, they established several conditions, such as Johnson not utilizing any privileged information from his time in office and refraining from personally lobbying the government on behalf of GB News for two years after his tenure as Prime Minister. Earlier this year, Acoba had previously stated that Johnson had violated the ministerial code by not seeking approval for his Daily Mail job.
