Boeing is advising airlines to conduct inspections on their 737 Max airplanes due to a potential loose bolt in the rudder control systems. The recommendation came after an international operator discovered a bolt with a missing nut, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The rudder is an essential component used to control the aircraft while in flight. Boeing stated that the issue found on that specific airplane has been resolved, but as a precautionary measure, they are urging operators to inspect their 737 Max airplanes and report any findings. The FAA is closely monitoring the targeted inspections and looking for potential loose bolts in the rudder control system. Boeing has suggested that the inspections be completed within the next two weeks, with the checks taking approximately two hours to complete. It is important to note that any problems with a faulty rudder would likely be identified during a pre-flight check. Air safety expert Anthony Brickhouse emphasized the importance of airlines taking this matter seriously, although he personally believes it should not cause concern for the flying public. Boeing's shares experienced a 1% decrease in midday trade following the announcement. The 737 Max was granted permission to fly passengers again in 2020 after being grounded worldwide for 20 months due to two fatal accidents in Ethiopia and Indonesia that resulted in the deaths of 346 individuals.
