The CEO of Boeing, Dave Calhoun, has admitted that the company is to blame for an incident where a door blew out on one of its aircraft shortly after taking off in the US. Fortunately, no one was injured when the unused cabin door broke away from the Alaska Airlines flight from Portland, Oregon. Following the incident, the US has grounded 171 of the Boeing 737 Max 9 planes. Calhoun acknowledged the mistake and stressed the importance of transparency while working with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to investigate the cause. It has been discovered that the missing section of the plane, weighing 27kg (60lb), was used to fill an emergency exit that was not required by Alaska Airlines. The airline had also implemented restrictions on the aircraft due to pressurization warnings in the days leading up to the incident. Calhoun expressed his sympathy for those who witnessed the incident and emphasized the need to ensure the safety of all future flights. Inspections of Boeing 737 Max 9 planes are ongoing as the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) prioritizes the safety of the flying public.
