Tyla, a South African singer, has found her breakout hit with the hypnotically seductive summer anthem "Water." The 21-year-old artist couldn't get enough of her own song and her instincts were right as it became a top-five hit in many countries and the most-streamed Afrobeats song on Spotify in 2023. Tyla also made history as the first South African solo artist to enter the Billboard charts in 55 years and received a Grammy nomination. She is currently fourth on the BBC's Sound Of 2024 list. Tyla's ultimate goal is to become one of the world's biggest pop stars and she is grateful for the opportunities that have come her way. She released her debut single, "Getting Late," in 2019, which helped her gain recognition in South Africa. Tyla's success led to a record label bidding war and she eventually signed with Epic Records, where she was promised creative freedom. Her music explores themes of attraction and temptation and she has gained a massive following on TikTok. Tyla's self-titled debut album is set to release in March. Throughout her journey, her grandmother has remained her biggest supporter.
