Top Gear co-host Chris Harris has provided an update on Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff's recovery following his crash while filming for the show almost a year ago. The former cricketer was injured at Top Gear's test track in December 2019, leading to the suspension of the series and a reported £9 million compensation payment from the BBC. Harris mentioned in an interview that Flintoff is healing but did not elaborate on the incident. The crash occurred at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey, but very little information has been released publicly. Harris expressed pride in the fact that the show's team kept the incident under wraps and remained dignified throughout. In his book, Harris stated that he was glad Flintoff survived the crash. Flintoff's legal team previously described his injuries as "life-alteringly significant." He recently returned to the public eye by joining the England coaching set-up for a one-day international series. Harris conveyed his happiness to see Flintoff passionate about cricket and expressed his sadness at not currently working with him on Top Gear. The crash had a personal impact on Harris, who described being in a "slightly dark place" during the show's abrupt hiatus. The future of Top Gear remains uncertain, as a health and safety review is currently being conducted. The Health and Safety Executive confirmed that it had completed its inquiry into the incident in March and would not be conducting further investigations.
