According to Alexei Navalny's spokeswoman, the Kremlin critic is alive and currently held in a penal colony in Siberia. The announcement was made on December 25th by Kira Yarmysh, who revealed that Navalny had been transferred from his previous prison and his team had lost contact with him since December 6th. Navalny, a prominent opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been imprisoned since 2021. Yarmysh informed via the Telegram messaging app that a lawyer had seen Navalny and confirmed he was in good condition. It was revealed that he had been moved to the IK-3 penal colony in the northern region of Kharp in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District after being held in Melekhovo, east of Moscow. Navalny's aide, Ivan Zhadov, described this colony as one of the most remote and harsh in Russia, highlighting the system's attempt to isolate and suppress political prisoners. Concern for Navalny's well-being had grown when he failed to appear in court for several hearings. Navalny gained recognition for his anti-corruption activism and ability to mobilize masses for anti-government protests across the country. In 2020, he was poisoned in Siberia by a nerve agent confirmed by Western laboratories, received treatment abroad, and upon returning to Russia in 2021, he was promptly arrested.
