Ahed Tamimi, a well-known Palestinian activist, has been arrested by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank. The 22-year-old was detained overnight in the village of Nabi Saleh, according to the Palestinian Prisoners' Society. The Israeli military claims that she is suspected of inciting violence and engaging in terrorist activities. Israeli media reported that her arrest is linked to a threatening post on Instagram, where she allegedly mentioned killing Jewish settlers. The post has been removed, and the account associated with her name and photo has been taken down. Tamimi gained international attention as a symbol of resistance to Israel's occupation when, as a teenager, she was photographed biting an Israeli soldier in 2015. Two years later, she was arrested for slapping and kicking another soldier and served an eight-month prison sentence. Tamimi's mother denies that she wrote the controversial post, stating that there are numerous pages in her daughter's name that she has no connection with. Tamimi's arrest came as part of a wider Israeli crackdown, with at least 70 Palestinians detained in raids across the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The United Nations reports that there has been an alarming surge in violence in the West Bank, with 141 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces and eight others killed by Israeli settlers. Meanwhile, two Israelis have been killed by Palestinians. The international community largely views Israeli settlements in the occupied territories as illegal, although Israel disputes this claim.
