A charity in Afghanistan recently held a mass wedding ceremony for 50 couples in Kabul. These types of events have become more popular among low-income couples who want to avoid the expensive costs associated with traditional weddings. The charity not only organized the ceremony but also provided the newlyweds with essential items such as carpets and household appliances to help them start their married life. As part of the ceremony, an official from the ministry for the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice addressed the couples. While recitations from the Koran were performed, dancing and music remained prohibited due to Taliban rule since their resurgence in August 2021. Finally, the brides and grooms were sent off in cars decorated with green ribbons and heart-shaped plastic roses in red.
